In 1998, Harms also went bankrupt and died. The Carlshütte was dissolved and sold at auction. It was Hans-Julius Ahlmann who bought back the site and buildings, so that ACO and the Carlshütte were finally reunited geographically and idealistically. Since then, the historic bays and the grounds of the Carlshütte have been filled with new life, now as the Carlshütte artwork.

1998 geht auch Harms in Insolvenz und stirbt. Die Carlshütte wird aufgelöst und versteigert. Es ist Hans-Julius Ahlmann, der Gelände und Hallen zurückkauft, sodass ACO und Carlshütte topographisch und ideell endlich wieder vereint sind. Das Gelände wird unter federführender Beteiligung von Johanna Ahlmann, mit neuem Leben erfüllt wird, nunmehr als Kunstwerk Carlshütte.
